Entertainment in Tucson bounces back after pandemic | Coronavirus

TUCSON (KVOA) – More than a year after the pandemic began, indoor venues are starting to open their doors to the public.

“We’re overjoyed to reopen because it’s been almost 14 months, it’s only been a week 14 months,” said Jeff Yanc, program director of The Loft.

Since its closure on March 15, 2020, the loft has tried to bring entertainment to the Tucson community by offering virtual and outdoor cinema.

“But it’s really not the same as this magic, when you put people in a room to watch a movie and share the experience and laugh, cry and scream,” Yanc said.

Movie lover William May says he’s glad to be back in the theater.

“I think it restores a sense of freedom that you can live your life, that you can experience things when you were more isolated during the COVID pandemic,” May said.

The sound of live music also fills the city center. The Fox Theater works with several groups, including RendezVous Urban Flats, in an open air concert series.

“We wanted to be part of the inner city recreation. We wanted to help the city with live activities and live performances again, ”said RendezVous chairman Roger Karber.

The Fox Theater calendar will return to live indoor entertainment in September. Just down the street, the Rialto has indoor acts planned for August.

Going to the movies or going to an indoor concert may seem like a pastime, but it’s symbolic of what society has lost during the pandemic.

“Returning to normal operations means that society is back to normal. And people start to do the things they used to love and want to do again, ”Yanc said. “I think we all just missed our audience. And that kind of magic. “
