With a convincing victory in the final of the regular season, Tucson FC secured their first professional playoff spot and a home game after the season.

Tucson FC (11.10.7) defeated the Richmond Kickers 4-2 on Saturday evening at home in front of 1,566 spectators at the Kino North Stadium.

The win continued Tucson FC’s rise from eleventh (out of twelve) when Jon Pearlman took over as interim coach in late June.

“What a night for the community, what a night for our fans,” said Tucson FC manager Pearlman, who was appointed permanent coach three weeks ago. “For me it is certainly very emotional. I’ve been given a job, I’ve been given a chance, and I just continue to be grateful. We continue to play for our fans and in front of our fans. “

Tucson FC is 9-6-4 since Pearlman took over.

The Men in Black will host the Kickers again next Saturday in the first round of the playoffs (11.10.7). Tucson FC finished tied with Richmond with 40 points, but were placed fourth in the playoffs due to a better goal difference. Richmond won their first meeting of the year, beating Tucson 1-0 on July 31.

On Saturday, Richmond scored Kickers midfielder Jonathan Bolanos’ first goal against the game in the 21st minute. In the 24th minute, FC Tucson defender Maxi Schenfeld reacted with the equalizer.
