A man on a police standoff at a motel on the south side of Tucson is wanted in connection with a fatal shooting early Tuesday, officials say.
The incident began around 2 a.m. when police officers responding to an emergency call at the 3700 block on East 23rd Street found a woman who had been shot. She was pronounced dead at the crime scene, one block south of Reid Park, near the South Alvernon Way.
At around 8:30 am Tuesday, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department answered a domestic violence call at a motel near South Palo Verde Road and Interstate 10. A man then barricaded himself inside the motel.
Officials said late Tuesday that the man was wanted in connection with both the shooting and the domestic violence call.
No details were known about either of the incidents late Tuesday.
Sheriffs Department officials say the man was armed and was alone in the motel room.
Deputies and negotiators of the SWAT team stayed at the motel on Tuesday evening.
