A man driving a stolen Kia had an accident and died on the southeast side of Tucson on Saturday morning.
Tucson police were called to the intersection of South Kolb and East Valencia streets at 10 a.m. after reports of a serious car accident involving a single car. When they got to the scene, they found a 2004 Kia Amanti and the driver of the car, 31-year-old George Walter Dubose, thrown out of the vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
After speaking to witnesses, the police discovered that Dubose was racing north on Kolb when he hit the eastern median at the intersection with Valencia. Although the Kia was traveling north, Dubose lost control and pulled off the road into a nearby ditch.
According to police, Dubose was unbuckled and his driver’s license was revoked. Police later learned that the Kia had been reported stolen that morning.
Excessive speed was reported as the main cause of the accident.
