Despite the increase in flash floods, Tucson was able to avoid severe flood damage to homes and buildings.

Improved infrastructure has helped combat flood damage; Road repairs and less low water crossing are likely the reasons, the weather service said.

Rain is expected to continue to hit the Tucson metro region early August, the weather service says.

During this week there is a 15 to 20% chance of rain every day. However, the monsoons are expected to be less active than in recent days.

Meanwhile, Marana is grappling with an uncomfortable result of the heavy rain: an overflow of 534,000 gallons of sewage.

While the city finds that the sewage is diluted with rainwater, it collects in a basin north of the city.

The discovery came on July 25 when an overflow was discovered from a manhole on North Tangerine Farms Road and West Clark Farms Boulevard, city officials said in a press release.

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality was notified and the crews were working to clean and sanitize the intersection. Marana Water employees have installed temporary fences around the perimeter and will gradually pump out the retention basin and divert the diluted sewage back into the sewer system, officials say.
