Several popular artists who call Tucson home, including Daniel Martin Diaz, Donovan White, and Danny Martin, are pitching in to raise funds for the Tucson-based nonprofit Homicide Survivors, Inc. on Friday, September 10th.
The artists have contributed original works, including a record player clad in Martin’s signature black and white illustrations, which will be used from April 5. in a pop-up gallery by Luz de Vida in the MSA Annex, 267 S. Avenida del Convento, will be auctioned until 9 p.m.
The Luz de Vida project was launched as an expression of community and love in the aftermath of the January 8, 2011 shootings, in which, according to press materials, six people were killed and 19 injured, including then-Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
The Luz de Vida album, featuring local and national artists, raised more than $ 20,000 for the Tucson Together Fund, which was set up to provide financial support to the families of the victims.
The money raised since the fund was liquidated in 2014 went to Homicide Survivors, Inc.
The free pop-up event on Friday will be preceded by “Luz de Vida II”, a new album with Calexico, Dr. Dog, Amos Lee, and other local and national artists, set to be released on November 5th.
All proceeds from the album and Friday’s pop-up event will go to Homicide Survivors, Inc., which helps the families of murder victims across Tucson and southern Arizona.
