The NFL’s New York Giants will practice on the University of Arizona campus next week as they trek from Florida to Los Angeles for a game.

Though no schedule was immediately available, the Giants – led by running back Saquon Barkley and quarterback Daniel Jones and with former Arizona Wildcats running back Gary Britghtwell – usually train on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays during the season.

The Giants will play against the Dolphins in Miami on Sunday. Instead of returning to New York, the Giants will travel to Tucson for a few days before moving to Los Angeles for a game against the Chargers on December 12th.

Watch Now: How will Jedd Fisch’s first season in Arizona be remembered?

It’s unclear what the Giants-Tucson connection is, though UA coach Jedd Fisch and Giants coach Joe Judge both worked for the Patriots under Bill Belichick a year apart.

Tucson has long been a place to get away from the cold weather during football season. In 1924, Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne brought his team – led by the famous “Four Horsemen” – by train to Tucson to play Stanford at the Rose Bowl.

Visited Notre Dame nine times between 1924 and 40, and practiced here each time on the way to Los Angeles.

In 1980 the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers played an exhibition game in a frenzied Arizona stadium. And the Arizona Cardinals from their home state have practiced regularly on the UA campus over the years.
