Some Tucson venues to require proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative test to attend shows

TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – Some local music venues are doubling up on COVID-19 precautions as a vaccine record or negative test is required to get inside.

The Fox Tucson Theater, Rialto Theater, Club Congress, and 191 Toole are the local venues that have put their names on the list of some across the state to begin with.

And those who have spoken to KOLD News 13 say they believe this is an extra layer of security.

The stage lights are finally coming on again after gathering dust during the pandemic. However, if you want to see shows on these stages, you will need to provide proof of vaccination or a negative test.

Why do local venues do this?

“Mostly to protect our community, our artists, our employees, and our ability to keep working,” said Bonnie Schock, executive director of the Fox Tucson Theater.

The Rialto Theater, Club Congress, 191 Toole and the Fox Tucson Theater are preparing to begin implementing these new rules, rules agreed by 15 independent entertainment venues nationwide.

“There has been a lot of whiplash, especially across the industry,” said Club Congress Entertainment Director David Slutes. “Everyone is booking shows again and selling so many tickets for shows. Everyone wants to see live music again. “

So how will it work? While this is still in the works during the changeover, visitors will be asked to provide hard copy evidence or call it up on their phone.

“Everything to make it as easy as possible, because that’s a burden. It’s not something we want everyone to do, but we think it’s right now, ”said Slutes.

And as for the criticism from some who disagree with the new rules, it was to be expected.

“We get it … all I can say is that we understand and that nobody wants to be in that position. We don’t want to be in this situation, which is why it is so important to us that we come together and do everything we can to ensure that everyone is as safe as possible, ”said Schock.

With regard to the congress, please note that these rules only apply to shows in the Club Congress and do not include the outdoor venue or the hotel and restaurant.

The dates vary for the venues, as far as this is implemented, but start on September 20th at the latest.
