TUCSON (KVOA) – Three schools in southern Arizona caught national attention Tuesday after being named one of the 50 best high schools in the United States, according to the latest US News and World Report ranking.
After comparing data from more than 17,800 public high schools across the US on factors such as college readiness, college curriculum scope, math and reading literacy, math and reading achievement, under-served student achievement, and graduation rate, US News said University High School, BASIS Oro Valley and BASIS Tucson North took places in the 50 best high schools in the country.

Of the three schools in the Tucson area, the Tucson Unified School District’s UHS ranked highest in the national ranking; Entitled to # 17 on the list.
That year, UHS received a 99.91 scorecard of 98% for math proficiency, 99.2% for college readiness score, and a 99% graduation rate.
The US News also named UHS the sixth-best traditional school in the country, the second-best school in Arizona, and the first-best traditional school in Arizona.

Not far behind on the list, BASIS Oro Valley also grabbed a top spot in this year’s national ranking.
BASIS Oro Valley was ranked 23rd best high school in the United States with a score of 99.97. The school ranked # 1 in the nation and state for college readiness index and graduation rate.
The school was also ranked # 4 on the College Curriculum Breadth Index rank in both the nation and the state.
BASE Tucson, on the other hand, was ranked No. 47 in the nation and earned a 99.74 on its scorecard.
BASIS Tucson has partnered with its Oro Valley counterpart for the best college readiness index rank in the country and state.
