TUCSON, Arizona (KGUN) – A viewer called Thursday and suggested a subject: Streets with Multiple Names.
Two immediately come to mind: St. Marys Road and Oracle Road.
St Marys Road changes name to 6th Street east of I-10. If you travel further east, 6th jogs south at the Country Club and changes its name back to 5th Street.
Near St. Marys, another three-name road runs north and south through the city: Oracle Road.
Oracle changes its name south of Speedway to Main Avenue. Further south, Main changes name to Granada Avenue as you continue south on Congress Street.
The history of Oracle Road is illuminated in a section of Pat Parris’ Absolutely Arizona. The road has seen many incarnations and many changes over the past eight decades.
