TUCSON, Arizona (AP) – Retired singer Linda Ronstadt is celebrated by her hometown with her very own day.
The Mayor of Tucson, Regina Romero, officially declared Thursday Linda Ronstadt Day earlier this week. It was the Grammy Award winner’s 75th birthday.
Romero said in a Facebook post that Ronstadt made “significant contributions to various musical genres” while sharing the Southwestern culture of their upbringing with the world.
Ronstadt was born on July 15, 1946 in Tucson to a musically inclined rancher family and moved to Los Angeles in the mid-1960s to begin her singing career. She has had tremendous success performing and recording various styles including folk rock, country, latin, light opera, and pop.
Ronstadt retired after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
