TOKYO (KVOA) – Former Tucson High student athlete and U of A Pac-12 championship diver Delaney Schnell is closer to winning another medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Schnell reached the semifinals of Team USA and was third in the field of 30 divers.
“The day immediately after the synchronization, I let all the emotions sink in, but the next day I really tried to focus on the next event. I think it took a lot of pressure off that I already won silver.” Medal and now I can just enjoy it and dive for myself, “Schnell said.” I was nervous at the beginning, but the first dive helps to get some nerve off, and honestly, the preliminaries are just about getting on with the Prepare for success in the semifinals and in the finals. Her list quickly began with a Back 2½ Somersaults 1½ Twists Pike, on which she scored a solid 8 to put her in the top 3 with 76.80. Schnell stayed consistently in the top three for the remainder of her dives, not getting less than a 7 on any of her dives and earning a total of 360.75 for the day.
The women’s 10-meter platform competition will continue on Wednesday evening with the semi-finals at 10 a.m. Japanese time (6 p.m. Tucson time).
The top 12 divers of this round will advance to the late night finals, which will take place at 3:00 p.m. Japanese time / 9:00 p.m. (11:00 p.m. Tucson time).
The semi-finals will be broadcast on KVOA (NBC), CNBC and streamed on NBCOlympics.com, and the finals will be streamed on USA Network and NBCOlympics.com.
