Tucson High/UArizona diver falls just short of medaling in 10M platform

TOKYO (KVOA) – Delaney Schnell, a former Tucson High student and University of Arizona Pac-12 Championship diver, failed to win her second medal at the Tokyo Games.

Delaney Schnell finished her first Olympics in fifth place in the women’s 10-meter platform final.

The proud Tucson native turns out to be the best US finish since Laura Wilkinson finished fourth in 2004.

“I’m very excited to see how these Olympics went. Of course it would have been nice to win a medal in the individual, but it just shows what I can do and I know it will come in 3 years.” I’ll be better prepared than ever, “Schnell said.” This team was very young and very new and I think that’s a big part of what made it special. Schnell, who won the first silver medal for Team USA in the women’s 10-meter synchronized competition with her partner Jessica Parratto at the start of the Games, finished third in both qualifying and the semi-finals of the competition.
