Tucson International Airport sees increased travel demand

TUCSON (KVOA) – How is vaccination affecting travel in our city as the country continues to open up and vaccination adoption speeds up?

The people at Tucson International Airport said they had a lot of positive experiences. If you’re a budding jet-setter, you’ll see more concessionaires opening up, things still getting cleaned up, and masks still required under federal law.

Tucson International Airport says travel demand is currently around 70% compared to 2019, a normal year. This is a big step up for them. They said the spike came in late February and early March, where they saw the travel percentage rise to 50% and again to 70%.

“There definitely seems to be some catching up to do when it comes to travel,” said Bruce Goetz of Tucson International Airport. “And these numbers aren’t just unique to us here in Tucson … we see them from all airports across the country.”

The innovations for the airport include a new jet bridge in the B-Bahnhalle and ground transport has been consolidated in front of the terminal for passengers.

The airport said that as demand increased, airlines have added more flights and their flights are seeing increased passenger traffic.
