Luke Diamond now leads the Tucson Masterworks Chorale, which is performing its fall concert this weekend.

Eric Holtan, center, will conduct his True Concord Voices & Orchestra at the “Conflict to Peace” concert this weekend.

Masterworks Choral back on stage

The honorary Tucson Masterworks Chorale under its new conductor Luke Diamond began rehearsing for this weekend’s fall concert at Christ Presbyterian Church in August.

Proof of the return of the ensemble: His concert – “Together in Song” – begins with Schubert’s demanding soprano workout “Mirjams Siegesgesang”, 10 continuous movements for soprano soloist and soprano, alto, tenor and bass choir.

Schubert composed the cantata based on texts by the poet Franz Grillparzer in the last months of his life. He died before he could orchestrate the work, which was completed by Franz Lachner.

It was premiered in his honor several months after the composer’s death.

Also on the program: works by Copland, David Dickau, Christopher Tin and Diamond, who joined the choir in August.

The 45-singer chorale will be performed on Sunday, November 21st at 6:00 pm at Christ Presbyterian Church, 6565 E. Broadway. Tickets are $ 20 through tucsonmasterworkschorale.org; No tickets will be sold at the box office. Participants must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination and everyone must wear masks.
