After over a year of hibernation, the Tucson Museum of Art is coming back to life.

The museum is hosting a Halloween theme “Howl at the Museum” on Friday October 29th.

The indoor and outdoor event features dance to cumbia music, an audience-selected cocktail competition featuring Tucson’s best bartenders, and a costume competition hosted by drag queens Apple, Diva, and Venus.

The event will also feature works of art representing Indigenous, Western and European cultures.

The goal is to bring new members to the museum and “bridge the gap between downtown and those you might consider typical museum goers,” said Korey Schultz, a co-chair of the Howl Host Committee.

Several restaurants in Tucson – Commoner & Co., Flora’s Market Run, Prep & Pastry, Café a la C’Art, and LaCo Tucson (formerly La Cocina) – serve food, while Portal offers Cocktails and Finley Distributing drinks.

The event also features the Whiskey del Bac Del Bac Showdown, a cocktail competition showcasing creations from Tucson’s best bartenders. The viewers vote on the cocktails and the winners receive cash prizes.

“It’s a pretty fun thing. To be able to do that every year is wonderful, ”said Cami Cotton, another co-chair of the event committee.
