TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – We’re finally seeing the light at the end of the pandemic tunnel as the prospect of travel is within our grasp this summer.
Did you know Tucson was called a “go-to” destination?
Esquire named Tucson one of the “5 Unexpectedly Great Cities” to Visit in the United States
Of course, Visit Tucson officials said they weren’t surprised.
Our combination of great weather for most of the year, great outdoor opportunities in this post-COVID area, world famous food, and our proximity to a national park have secured our place on the list.
“Tucson is a unique experience. There are many things you can do here that you cannot see anywhere else. Especially in our emerging economy, where many people can be far from their jobs, Tucson is becoming very attractive in this type of remote economy, ”said Dan Gibson, senior director of communications at Visit Tucson.
He added that lists like Esquire’s are a reminder of what the Old Pueblo has to offer and encourage them to visit southern Arizona.
In addition, the more visitors visit our economy, the stronger it is.
Gibson said Tucson stayed at 40-50% occupancy for tourists last year, but we’re trying to recover.
This list is just another way to do so, as tourism brings revenue to local shops, hotels and restaurants.
Another thing that can help is Conde Nast Traveler’s “Hot List”.
For the first time ever, Tucson made the list.
Gibson said this was a very big deal as the world’s top travel magazine Hot List was listing travel destinations for the first time.
Obviously we’re doing something right.
