A woman died in a car accident in Midtown Tucson on Wednesday afternoon.

Amelia J. Guzman, 82, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, Tucson police said.

Just after 3 p.m. on September 22, officers arrived at East Camp Lowell Drive and North Swan Road to receive reports of a serious injury collision involving a silver 2018 Toyota Camry and a gray 2016 Dodge Challenger.

Tucson Fire arrived at the scene and brought Guzman, the driver of the Camry, with life-threatening injuries to the Banner University medical center, police said. The Challenger driver and a passenger were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Guzman tried to turn south from Swan Road into traffic heading north on a flashing yellow turn arrow. The Challenger was traveling north on Swan Road at a speed higher than the speed limit and crashed into the Camry driven by Guzman.

The driver of the Challenger was not impaired at the time of the impact, the police said.

No quotes or fees were issued.

The investigation continues.
