TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – The city of Tucson invites the public to meet on Saturday, November 20, regarding Phase 2 of the Silverbell Road Improvement Project.
The Regional Transportation Authority’s plan was voted for by voters in 2006 and will be completed in 2026. The design concept was completed in 2010 and the last public meeting took place in 2016 before phase 1 was completed.
Erica Frazelle, Public Information Officer for the Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility, said Phase 2 of the road expansion project will take place from West Goret Road to West El Camino del Cerro.
“The landscaping of islands, pedestrian facilities, bike paths, bus exits makes it really easier for travelers to travel around this area by all means of transport,” said Frazelle.
Construction is expected to start in autumn 2022. After completion, Silverbell will be a four-lane carriageway with two lanes in each direction.
Frazelle said city, RTA and Pima county leaders want to answer public questions and hear their concerns before construction begins.
“To discuss everything about Silverbell, to get an update on the plan. We will have tables from all team members involved in this project, including landscape and art, ”Frazelle said. “There will be some visuals so people really get a full understanding of what this project is going to be like and what to expect.”
The meeting will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Christopher Columbus Park on the north side of the lake
“We held public meetings with 30% design and 60% design to make sure that what we’re building is what people out there want,” said Frazelle. “They took all of this public feedback and were able to incorporate it into the design, so just stop by and we’ll be able to answer any questions.”
