Tucson area residents transit tariffs will remain free for the remainder of 2021 to provide some tax relief for drivers, Sun Tran said.
Due to the pandemic, the transit service will be offering free trips with Sun Tran, Sun Link, Sun Van, Sun on Demand and Sun Shuttle from March 2020. Earlier this week it was announced that these free rides would run through December 31st.
Sun Tran said it was using federal grants to cover lost revenue.
“During fiscal 2022 budget planning, the mayor and city council members confirmed that free transit traffic was a priority,” Sun Tran said in a press release.
Masks are still required for drivers using Sun Tran, Sun Link and Sun Van services.
