Dragoons residents have been given the green light to return to their homes, reducing the evacuation status “GO” to “READY”, authorities said Thursday morning.
The walnut fire has remained unchecked across 8,572 acres, according to a press release from the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management.
Wednesday afternoon rains kept the fire from spreading to a minimum and allowed firefighters to make progress in fighting the fire, the statement said.
Warmer temperatures and winds are expected in the next few days. The Ministry of Forest and Fire Management is asking residents to prepare for evacuations in case the fire worsens.
The Red Cross shelter has been closed and drivers are encouraged to slow down to keep the firefighters safe.
