The Southern Arizona Community Food Bank will once again be distributing emergency food from its location at 3003 S. Country Club Road Thursday, January 7th.
As a result, sales are being shifted from the Sports Complex cinema, where the agency has been distributing food twice a week since May. A drive-through distribution will remain at the Country Club location.
The chalkboard will also expand the number of hours it will hand out groceries once it moves to the country club location.
From January 7th there will be emergency catering from 8 a.m. until noon on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. This is an extra day of food expenses and extra hours.
As a precautionary measure against the coronavirus (COVID-19), the annual Christmas en el Barrio distributed on the 18th. At 9am when the event officially opened, over 150 vehicles were lined up. Over a thousand were expected by the end of the day. A limited number of volunteers, totaling close to 50, were in attendance from Nova Home Loans and other community supporters to welcome vehicles and organize and distribute over $ 1,600 worth of toys. “Moving to our Country Club location allows us to expand our opening hours and give people more options when to pick up their monthly grocery box,” said Michael McDonald, CEO of the Tafel. “It takes a lot of resources to bring food to the cinema and distribute it there. With this return to our Country Club warehouse, we can be more efficient and double our food distribution hours. “
This is the final week of food delivery from the Sports Complex Cinema, 2500 E. Ajo Way, where food is available Tuesday, December 22nd from 8:00 am to 11:00 am and Thursday, December 24th from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
All food banks are closed from December 25th to January 3rd.
