TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – This week, KOLD News 13 honors a Tucson couple who volunteer around the clock to keep local pets from starving.

Pat and Lowell Kaiser are dedicated volunteers at Cody’s Friends. It is a charity that gives pet food to those in need, animal rescues and animal shelters.

“We couldn’t do this program if it weren’t for people like Pat and Lowell,” said Amber Allen, director of Cody’s Friends.

Cody’s Friends works with nearly fifty organizations in southern Arizona. These include pantries, soup kitchens, Indian tribes, police and fire departments. The nonprofit distributed 1.5 million pounds of pet food last year.

Pat Kaiser said many people would skip meals and give their pets their feed if they had to.

“They’d rather feed their animals their own food first than starve their pets,” she said.

Her husband, Lowell Kaiser, said they were in contact with many people in the community.

“It’s heartbreaking because we’re getting to know her on a personal level,” he said.

The couple will skip vacation to spend their free time packing, handing out, and even delivering dog and cat food.

“I’ll see on Facebook that Pat invited her family out for a great dinner. After dinner she takes out pet food and gallon bags and it’s a bag party. They just keep on being kind and keep going around the clock, ”Allen said.

Their commitment makes a real difference in the community and helps pets stay with their owners.

“Especially with the homeless. Most of them just have tough times. You are so grateful and grateful. It makes us feel like we are doing something in return. We had a good life and just want to give something back, ”said Pat.

Our Heart and Sol recipients received a gift card from our sponsor Casino Del Sol. You can nominate someone here who will make a difference in the community. Find out more about donating or volunteering at Cody’s Friends here.
