Hafner, who is building the stores and will be the business owner’s landlord, said hotel operations have been fair since it opened in part last spring, after months of construction delays due to COVID-19.
“It was fine – we’ve had our ups and downs, and we’ve learned many lessons as business owners,” Hafner said, adding that dealing with the public during the stressful period of the pandemic presents its own challenges.
Mt. Lemmon Coffee Bean is owned and operated by Debbie Weatherly, who has lived in Summerhaven full-time for nearly 15 years.
Weatherly, who has had cabin maintenance services in the area for landlords for 13 years and ran the former Mt. Lemmon Cafe for a short time before it closed in 2009, said she always wanted to open a cafe.
“It’s (an idea that) has come and gone, and now that Justin has the Mount Lemmon Hotel, the opportunity is there and I’m excited,” said Weatherly.
The Bean will be housed in a small, hut-style building and will serve as a walk-in coffee bar for the Mount Lemmon Hotel, providing local residents and day trippers with more opportunities to meet their caffeine needs.
Weatherly said she plans to offer specialty coffees and espresso beverages, is working with a roaster in Bisbee on a special espresso blend, and offers changing regional blends as well as juices, lemonade, and pastries.
