The 10th Annual Vamos a Tucson Mexican Baseball Fiesta, presented by Vantage West and Visit Tucson, will return to the Veterans Memorial Stadium from September 30th to October 3rd after the 2020 COVID-19 hiatus.
Four teams from the Mexican Pacific League (Liga Mexicana Del Pacifico) will take part in this year’s event.
These are Naranjeros de Hermosillo, Yaquis de Obregon, Aguilas de Mexicali and Mayos de Navojoa.
Hermosillo and Obregon have attended every nine years. The Mexican baseball fiesta will also be provisionally held in Las Vegas and the Phoenix area at Sloan Park in Mesa, with another stadium in the works. Ongoing discussions with Nogales and Douglas are ongoing.
The popular Sonora band La Brissa will perform at the Mexican baseball fiesta on October 1st after the double header.
Just four days in advance, the 2019 Mexican baseball fiesta drew 5,670 fans.
With their unique, modern cumbias and rancheras music, La Brissa has built a strong following in their homeland and in the southwest of the USA.
“The Mexican Pacific League is just as popular in Mexico as Major League Baseball is in the US, if not more,” said Francisco Gamez, founder and partner of the Mexican Baseball Fiesta, in a press release. “The last year has been a tough one. We missed hosting the fiesta, but we promise bigger and better things for 2021.
“The energy of the fans, the music, the food and the fun make this a unique experience for all baseball fans.”
Gamez played in the Mexican Pacific League and the Milwaukee Brewers Organization for over 10 years.
He joined Tucson’s longtime sports figure Mike Feather Founded Mexican Baseball Fiesta, LLC in 2011.
“The Vamos A Tucson Mexican Baseball Fiesta has grown into one of the top entertainment / baseball events on the Tucson calendar.” Mike Feather, President of the Mexican Baseball Fiesta, said in the press release. “The word fiesta describes our event best – ONE PARTY! We believe the Fiesta is Tucson’s largest Hispanic sporting event every year. The MBF also had a significant economic impact on Pima County. Visit Tucson has calculated that our three-week effort will earn our community over $ 1.5 million as you add hotel rooms, meals, concession purchases, mall purchases, payrolls, and more. “
Tickets for the Mexican Baseball Fiesta will be available online at www.MexicanBaseballFiesta.com in mid-August.
The advance booking prices are again box seats at a price of 15 USD and general admission for adults at 10 USD. Tickets for children (ages 6-16) are $ 6. Day tickets for box seats are $ 20 and general adult admission is $ 15.
Tickets will also be available two weeks before the first match at the Kino-Stadion box office, as well as other local locations to be announced.
The full tournament schedule will be published in the next few weeks. The popular rivalry game between Hermosillo and Obregon will be the second game of the doubles again on Saturday. This game has drawn more than 5,000 fans every year.
