Pima County’s COVID-19 cases continue to stagnate with a slight downward trend.

Most recently, from September 5th to 11th, cases fell by about 6% to 1,722 compared to the previous week.

“I was hoping we’d have a much steeper drop than we had on some of our other peaks. This seems to be really calming down and stabilizing instead of decreasing further, ”said Dr. Francisco Garcia, the county’s chief medical officer, on Friday. “Sometimes it looks a little too flat for my taste.”

Cases have stabilized here for about six weeks, with the exception of Aug. 15-21 when cases rose above 2,000. Since that peak, weekly cases have decreased by about 15%.

Across Arizona, weekly cases have declined 20% from a high of 22,830 in the week of August 15-21, according to the Arizona Department of Health.

Weekly COVID-19 hospital admissions in Pima County had been on a downward trend for two weeks prior to August 29 through September. 4, as they rose to 124 from 98 the week before, according to a Pima County Health Department report released Sept. 16.

According to AZDHS data, COVID-19 hospital admissions across the country appear to have stabilized at more or less than 1,400 a week for three weeks since August 15-21.
