RUBEN, David AMD, MBA

For those of you who we haven’t been able to reach, let it know that David A. Ruben, MD, MBA has disappeared from our lives. David, aged 74, lived in Tucson all his life; a baby boomer from the 40s. As the first son of Sam and Adeline Ruben, David was destined to become a doctor. orthodox in his passions as a nonconformist. If he rubbed you wrong, he knew he had your attention. And your attention was important to him. He wanted people to “wake up” from the soma of their lives. For David, this soma was embodied in the trappings of the modern world: planned obsolescence and increased consumption, couch potato TV viewers, pounding empty carbohydrates, political sound bites over thoughtful discourse. David was process-oriented in a goal-oriented society. He was all about interactions, making every excursion or activity a trip, much to the frustration of those who dared to go. drew and smoothed nails and reused the wood, and he read voraciously and spoke eloquently of his views. He wrote poetry and published books of his own on the weaknesses of technology and relationships, apparently only for his eyes. His body and mind were his temple. An omnivorous vegetarian who rummaged through the fridges of countless households. An athlete and purist who renounces intoxicants and prefers his fine mind and body. His generosity touched many lives, often overshadowing its imperfections by its apparent lack of altruism. He is deeply missed. David was the father and parent of five adult children and their multitudes. Survived by siblings, cousins, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all of you out there who read this. The funeral will take place on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, followed by a reception. The family will have a food and drink gathering following the services at Rio Vista Park, 3974 N. Tucson Blvd. Arrangement by EVERGREEN MORTUARY.
