The coronavirus pandemic is still affecting travel and various COVID-19 restrictions apply to travel destinations around the world. Always check and follow local government guidelines when planning future trips.
Tucson, Arizona – a city of detailed murals, quaint shops, morgues turned into bars, and oh yes, it’s also a UNESCO City of Fine Dining for its amazing food selection. To say your visit is long overdue would be an understatement of a century.
Allow me to take your hand and guide you through what is best described as Perfection, a weekend route where you sleep, eat, walk, drink, and then eat some more.

Downtown Clifton is an authentic Tucson hotel that feels more like home than a hotel, cc: curated artwork and decor that feels cool without being ostentatious. My room contained a cozy reading nook (vintage paperback books provided) and a floor-to-ceiling window ideal for midnight thunderstorms.
Red Light Lounge: Located in the heart of The Downtown Clifton, this pub is great for a drink, a bite and great company. I also never thought I’d write a love song about olives, but here we are: The olives here are sprinkled with pickled onions, chiltepin, lemon and olive oil and are officially the only app I want to eat besides a cocktail after in front. Who knew.
Address: 485 S. Stone Ave., Tucson, AZ 85701
Rooms from: $ 109 +

Drive through the west side of Saguaro National Park if, like me, you grew up in an overpopulated city and are afraid of winding roads. This scenic loop is an easy half-hour drive, there are places to stop and gawk at, and the views are breathtaking.

And if you like the views of Saguaro, you must also visit the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, whose title doesn’t do it justice. This place is not just a museum, but a zoo, botanical garden, aquarium and art gallery in the middle of 21 hectares of desert.
Address: 2021 N. Kinney Rd., Tucson, AZ 85743
Stroll through the Mercado San Agustin and the MSA Annex (both across the street). They are sprawling open markets that have a bit of everything: food, coffee, desserts, and local shops for a full afternoon to explore.
Address: 100 South Avenida del Convento, Tucson, AZ 85745

Take a bank at the Owls Club, a former funeral home that turned into a bar for people who prefer gin with a ghost set (maybe). Whispering mood + delicious cocktails + a slice of Halloween every evening = the perfect place, and that’s out of the question.
Address: 236 S. Scott Ave., Tucson, AZ 85701

Visit Hamilton Distillers, one of six in the country that make their own single malt. Samples of their award-winning liquor are also on the table, so you must have a drink of their specialty: a hot whiskey with mesquite.

Stroll through the institutions along historic Fourth Avenue, including Antigone Books (oooo, we love a #smallbookshop) and The Hut (a Tiki-inspired lounge that you enter through an Easter Island statue).
At BOCA Tacos Y Tequila you can also recharge your batteries after shopping down Fourth Avenue. And if the name wasn’t enough to show off what they were serving … it’s tacos! Delicious for just $ 3.50 a pop. Be sure to order a HUGE bag of chips for the table to combine with the four homemade salsas, the flavors of which change daily.

Dedicate an afternoon to the masterfully curated Tucson Museum of Art, home to an impressive collection of Indigenous, Latin American, and local Arizona art. The space itself is also airy and open, a nice respite from all the dry heat.
Address: 140 N. Main Ave., Tucson, AZ 85701

…. and the museums don’t end there. DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun, designed by Arizona artist Ettore “Ted” DeGrazia, displays over 15,000 original works of art that provide an intimate glimpse into the history and indigenous cultures of the Southwest.
Address: 6300 N. Swan Rd., Tucson, AZ 85718

Head south of downtown to the San Xavier del Bac Mission, an impressive church and national historic landmark dating from 1797 – the ornate details inside are enhanced by the barren desert backdrop on the outside.
Address: 1950 W. San Xavier Rd., Tucson, AZ 85746

Breathe in pastries at the family-run La Estrella bakery. This local business has been around since 1986, is loved by the community for its fresh ginger ~ pork ~ (El Cochito) and sweet bread (La Concha), and best of all, the spread below is less than $ 6.
The original location is at 5266 S 12th Ave Tucson, AZ 85706, but you can check out the second location in the Mercado San Augustin.

It would be a sin not to dine in the Seis. Dramatic? Maybe, but still true. Delicious menu items include chorizo burritos and bacon tacos that you might want to wash down with a fresh agua fresca (watermelon cucumber was my favorite) * and * a homemade horchata. I say and you have to eat both.
Horchata is a Mexican plant milk made from cinnamon, rice and vanilla that you would like to drink in a jug.
Here you can see all Seis locations.

Cool down with Raspado! This iconic Mexican snow cone is made from shaved ice and is often paired with condensed milk and ice cream. If your most important personality trait is “undecided”, then follow my taste recommendation: peach.
Here are just a few places you can get them all over Tucson:
Taqueria Pico De Gallo: 2618 S. 6th Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85713
Oasis Fruit Cones: 4126 S. 12th Ave., Tucson, AZ 85714
Sonora Sno-Cones: 120 South Avenida del Convento # 120, Tucson, AZ 85745

Anello is revered by the locals for mastering the most divine of all food groups: pizza. The menu is simple, which means that every margherita cake made is perfect. You’ll also want to inhale the focaccia starter with jam and cheese.

Brunch it up at Prep & Pastry for unique twists on classic dishes. For example, your PB&J toast combines peanut butter ricotta fluff, strawberry jam, canned blueberry, cinnamon, sugar and Japanese milk bread.

Enjoy handmade ice cream at The Screamery. Delicious flavors include Rough At Sea (sea salt based, honey butterscotch swirl, candied pecans, almonds and pistachios) and Sweet Sonora Desert (honey ice cream with peanut butter swirl and homemade toffee). Try six flavors in one fell swoop.
Here you can take a look at the four locations in Tucson.
