TUCSON, Arizona (KOLD News 13) – On the final day of the Tucson Meet Yourself, Bob Kovitz received his COVID-19 booster shot.
“That was convenient,” he said. “I thought as long as I was down here I would lead by example and get the shot.”
While it was easy, Kovitz was nowhere near the only person who received the vaccine.
Staff at the booth told KOLD that there was a steady stream of people all day looking for either their first, second, or like Kovitz – a booster.
“People either come down to look for us or stumble upon the vaccine clinic and say they want to use it while they’re here,” Kovitz said.
Workers estimated that up to 100 people received a COVID-19 vaccination on the festival Sunday alone, and volunteers like Kovitz are happy to be involved.
And while the vaccination rate was booming, so were many grocery vendors.
“Yesterday we were six or seven hours non-stop,” said Luis Campos, a salesman.
Campos and his mother Fatima own Incas in Tucson. After a tough year due to the pandemic, they are grateful to be back.
“It seems like after a year off everything is back on track and it’s good to see everyone again,” said Campos. “All of our customers from previous years are back, they love to see us and we love to serve them.”
